Meet the EureRetro-team! Hi, we're Elsie and Pat! We're happy that you found your way here to European Retro, our brand new webzine. Elsie is a writer and Pat a photographer/illustrator and webdesigner. This webmagazine is all about the 20th century's glamour, those days when the modern concept of elegance was defined by the 20ties flapper girl to the 70ties erotic movie sirens via the untarnished style of fashion designers, photographers, moviemakers, actors and actresses, authors, musicians, artists and architects of the 30ties, 40ties, 50ties and 60ties. Retro culture is big all over the planet, but as we are located in Europe we will focus most on what goes on at home. We'll try to bring as much information about our great style heritage as we possibly can and hopefully become a useful resource for people interested in European style. However, this does not mean we'll close our eyes to the rest of the world. We will certainly keep our eyes as well as our minds open to all the goes on around on planet vintage and rockabilly, especially the US and Austraila where retro culture is huge. As you read this we're busy working on our next issue which should be out in February 2006. If you'd like to contribute, have news you'd like us to write about or just want to voice your opinions don't hesitate to contact us. We're also on the outlook for people who want to write, especially on beauty and music. If you want to advertise, go to the home page below Terms and Conditions.
Dear readers, Up until recently retro culture have had all the charm and excitement of a counter culture, run by people who's work is mostly a labour of love. But lately the big money making companies have cast their eyes on retro, as I'm writing this Peter Jackson's remake of the old B-movie classic King Kong has it's premiere in the worlds capital cities. Stylists and designers in the fickle world of fashion has also developed a liking for everything retro. Designers for high street stores like Kookai, Karen Millen, Hobbs and Oasis are making clothes to look like they came out of a box at tha local jumble sale and magazine stylists has embraced the 50ties look. It started with Renee Zellweger on the cover of W magazine in … styled as bettie Page. And as 2005 is coming to an end we see the December issue of Interview with Scarlett Johansen styled as Marilyn Monroe. Even Sarah Jessica Parker tries to mimic Monroe in the fall campaign for her new perfume. Check it out in our fashion section - the likeness is uncanny. Will this mean the end of retro culture as interesting when it goes mainstream? Or will you all love it even when it's no longer trendy? Does style surpass trends? These questions have been bugging me for a while now, and I'd like to hear your opinions on it. Please write to me if you have anything to say on the subject. But before you do, go on, get reading. And…there was something else I was going to say…..…oh, yes! Have a Merry X-mas all!
Yours truly Elsie Spanner editor
